WE PROUDLY SUPPORT: Jackson County School District- Hands on Ag Day

Local Farriers, sponsored by Big R, explained that a horses hooves were individual like people, and no two shoes are the same fit.  Horses do not feel the filing and the whole experience is similar to getting a pedicure.  The overall process of horse-shoeing has not changed over the years, it’s the science of how to take care of our horses and what their needs are, that we’re learning about every day.  Thanks to Don Elms and Wes Hardin, each with their own horseshoeing company, who were there explaining to local school children how to care for horses!

Caroline from Big Rwas on hand to answer questions, and helped with our farriers demonstration.  She’s been an invaluable resource and employee of Big R for eight years.

Central Oregon Sportsmen’s Show, Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center

March 5-8, 2009
We always have fun during this event! Big R has been a part of the show for as long as we can remember! It is our opportunity to connect with the thousands of local hunting and fishing friends in Redmond. Each year we offer tremendous high quality fishing rod & reel combos, all under $20, as our way to introduce fishing to a new audience. We fill a huge 300 sq ft display booth with a sampling of our massive inventory. Plus, we have vendor specialists on-hand who provide full-time support and expert knowledge in their field- from HONDA generators to famous brands of hunting & fishing gear. There is really no way to represent the huge variety of clothing, tools, equipment and supplies available within our store, other than to stop by and visit! Which reminds me… a recurring theme every year at the Sportsmen’s Show is how many times we hear from our friends who visit the booth in Redmond: “Oh, Big R…. that’s our favorite store!” Thank you again for your hospitality Central Oregon, we’ll see you at the show next year!

Safety Day Recap

There is no way to grasp how many pieces of equipment were shown at Big R for the 3rd annual Search & Rescue Safety Awareness Day. It was cold yes, but we had warm spirits- with a total of 50 people representing all facets of Search & Rescue, from snowmobile teams, the Sheriff’s mounted posse (see “Cowboy” the horse in the group shot), a blood hound and a rescue dog (also in the group photo), and so much more….

Sponsored by South Valley Bank, together, we raised over $3,000 with raffle ticket sales and we had several hundred people visit the Big R parking lot.
KTVL- Channel 10 News covered the event in their 6 o’clock news. The Upper Rogue Independent newspaper gave us wonderful coverage as well. What a treat to help our community and support the Search and Rescue volunteers! Next year we hope the helicopters can make it!!
