About Us
Tyrholm’s Big R, currently located in Klamath Falls, Redmond, and White City Oregon, employs up to 180 people. It sponsors youth in FFA and 4-H clubs, awarding several scholarships across the state of Oregon.
Nearly fifty years ago in 1962 Jack Tyrholm had a passion for duck hunting. This hobby lured him out to Klamath Falls, Oregon. He brought his wife Beth, two sons, and four daughters. He also carried with him the knowledge to bring discount prices to farmers and ranchers in a fair trade market.
When he arrived in Oregon he immediately opened three Ranch Wholesale Supply Stores, located in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in Modesto, California and another in Yuba City, California. Three years later another store was built in Redmond, Oregon.
At that time, ranchers qualified for a fleet ownership card, if they owned four vehicles. Using this card, the Ranch Wholesale Supply Store provided them with discounts that were not offered elsewhere. This resulted in tire sales being the biggest part of the business.
About ten years later, Jack sold the two stores in California and changed the name of his stores in Oregon to Big R. He worked hard adapting to changes and customer demands for nearly twenty-five years before retiring and passing the torch to his two sons, Mike and Rock.
With farmers and ranchers being able to buy what they need at a reasonable price at Big R, it was no surprise that the company just kept growing. The Redmond store went from 10,000 square feet to 16,000 square feet to 44,000 square feet. White City Oregon soon came to be the next spot to open another Big R. Along with the store in White City, a distribution center and a corporate office building were built to keep up with the growing stores.
Big R now carries a variety of merchandise from many different departments—clothing, footwear, hardware, automotive, lawn and garden supplies, sporting goods, animal health, tack, and of course everything for the farmer and rancher.
If Oregon had not offered such a great place for duck hunting, who knows where the Tyrholm’s Big R stores would have ended up?
These days, Tyrholm’s Big R stores in Klamath Falls, Redmond and White City are owned and operated by Jack’s eldest son, Rock, who oversees all three operations when he’s not out hunting.
